Multifunction, Turn Signal, and Hazard Switch Replacement - On Vehicle for Chevrolet Cavalier 1999
Removal Procedure
Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing
any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to
the vehicle or its components.
- Disconnect
the negative battery cable.
- Disable the supplemental inflatable restraints (SIR). Refer to
Disabling the SIR System
in SIR.
- Remove the steering wheel. Refer to
Steering Wheel Replacement
- Remove the steering column shrouds. Refer to
Steering Column Trim Cover Replacement - On Vehicle
.
- Remove the 2 Torx®
head screws from the multifunction switch (2).
- Disconnect the electrical connectors from the multifunction switch (2).
- Remove the multifunction switch (2) from the steering column.
Installation Procedure
- Install the multifunction
switch (2) to the steering column.
- Connect the electrical connectors to the multifunction switch (2).
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the 2 Torx®
head screws to the multifunction switch (2).
Tighten
Tighten the screws to 6 N·m (53 lb in).
- Install the steering column shrouds. Refer to

- Install the steering wheel. Refer to

.
- Enable the SIR system. Refer to
Enabling the SIR System
in SIR
- Connect the negative battery cable.
- Ensure that the multifunction switch functions properly.
