New Product Information for Chevrolet Chevy Suburban - 4WD 1998
The purpose of New Product Information is to
highlight or indicate important product changes from the previous model year.
Changes may include one or more of the following items:
| • | Torque values and/or fastener tightening strategies |
| • | Changed engine specifications |
| • | New sealants and/or adhesives |
| • | Disassembly and assembly procedure revisions |
| • | Engine mechanical diagnostic procedure revisions |
| • | New special tools required |
| • | A component comparison from the previous year |
Torque Values and/or Fastener Tightening Strategies
| • | A non-torque angle strategy has been added for cylinder head bolts. |
| | In an on-vehicle situation where a torque angle meter may not fit into
the vehicle packaging, a three step tightening process may be used with a
torque wrench. |
| • | Cylinder head and connecting rod bolts apply a torque angle strategy. |
| • | Certain fasteners should not be reused. Bolts, studs, or other
fasteners that must be replaced will be called out in the specific service
procedure. |
| • | Refer to Engine Mechanical Specifications (5.7L)

Changed Engine Specifications
Engine specifications remain the same as the 1997 products.
New Sealants and/or Adhesives
| • | Additional applications have been added to the table including: |
| - | Crankshaft keyway adhesive |
| - | Flywheel bolt threads sealant |
| - | Exhaust manifold bolt threadlock |
| - | Engine block oil gallery plug threads sealant |
Disassembly and Assembly Procedure Revisions
| • | A new design Teflon® rear crankshaft oil seal installation
procedure |
| • | A new design valve stem oil seal for exhaust valves only. |
| • | Engine block plug information has been enhanced to include all
oil gallery and coolant plugs. |
Engine Mechanical Diagnostic Procedure Revisions
| • | Base Engine Misfire, Valve Train, and other diagnostic information
is now provided in table form. |
| | Potential or probable causes are supplied for each specific concern. |
| • | Refer to Base Engine Misfire Diagnosis

New Special Tools Required
| • | Tool J 35621-A
is a revision of J-35621 and services ALL applications. |
