Rack and Pinion Inner Tie Rod Replacement for Saturn Astra 2008
Removal Procedure
- Remove the corresponding outer tie rod end from the tie rod. Refer to
Steering Linkage Outer Tie Rod Replacement.
Important: To remove and refit the right-hand tie rod the left-hand boot must also be detached from the steering gear. A flat surface is to be found on the steering shaft side to hold against the steering rack (arrows).
- Remove the corresponding boot. Refer to
Rack and Pinion Boot Replacement.
- Remove the inner tie rod from the steering rack.
Counterhold with an open-ended wrench (2) on the toothed rack flat.
Installation Procedure
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.
- Install the tie rod inner linkage to the steering gear.
Tighten
Tighten to 90 N·m (67 lb ft).
| • | Clean the rack thread and coat with locking compound. |
| • | Install the inner tie rod to the rack. |
| • | Counterhold with an open-ended wrench (2) on the toothed rack flat (arrow). |
- Install the boot or boots. Refer to
Rack and Pinion Boot Replacement.
- Install the corresponding outer tie rod end. Refer to
Steering Linkage Outer Tie Rod Replacement.
- Check the straight-ahead position, adjust if necessary. Refer to
Straight Ahead Inspection.
- Check the toe-in, adjust if necessary. Refer to
Front Toe Adjustment.
